Humidifiers

Reader Annie recently asked me this:

"I know you mentioned you had a mister or humidifier. Is there a difference, and is one better than the other? I have chronic allergic rhinitis with dry sinuses, not a picnic."
Definitely NOT a picnic, Annie. Ouch.

Her timing with this question was good since I'm actually in the market for a new mister/humidifier type of thingie myself. In the past, I have used a cool mist humidifier in my bedroom, but have had some issues with the filter becoming clogged quickly with deposits from our tap water.

Mine used to look kind of like this until I pitched it into the garbage after buying multiple filters and struggling with cleaning the stupid thing:

I'm not certain that mine was exactly like this or manufactured by Vicks. Image above found here

Have you used humidifiers? Do you prefer steam types or cool mist ones? Annie and I want to know.....

I ditched my Vicks humidifier last year because it was impossible to clean. I have a Crane drop shape one now and it's awesome!

There is one advertised in the Sjogrens newsletter. They are $$ though. Venta- was thinking abt getting one...

We have a humidifier we bought, but after I read all the rules about where to set it up, it's STILL in the (opened) box. I literally can't set it up, according to those rules, in the room where it needs to be.

Stupid things.

If one of us needs steam I just turn the shower on and stand next to it, optionally holding a small-fry if they're being steamed. Yeah, it means we still need more humidity in the bedroom, but as I can't actually FIX that with these products...too bad! I'll just have a dry bedroom, I guess.

We also have a crane drop humidifier. Pretty easy to maintain and no filters. We have tried them all (Venta, Ger Guardian, Vick's, etc...). We put the humidifier on a cheap 12x12 extra tile we bought from Home Depot for like $1. This helped with putting it on the floor.

What is a crane drop humidifier?

I looked up the crane drop mister/humidifier on Amazon,(looks like a drop or a cone) and it had a good write up, so maybe this is the one to look into. I will look at the sjogren's site, but I don't think they went into specifics about different humidifiers. Thank you.

I've also tried many brands and given up because of the filters. Just bought a new Crane drop. Been using it for about a week now and it's been great so far.
